How AfDB President’s Niece, Joy Broke OAU’s All-Time Records In Medicine

A Nigerian lady Dr. Joy Adesina has broken the all-time records in medicine with her academic prowess at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Osun State.

This was made known by Dr. Victor Oladokun, a Senior Advisor to the President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, in a Facebook post to congratulate her.

She broke the university’s record in medicine with an exceptional feat claiming nine top awards and 10 distinctions.

“I am so proud of Dr #JoyAdesina who has emerged the top graduating student in Medicine at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria.

“Her record-breaking and exceptional list of nine top awards and 10 distinctions. Keep on shining Dr Joy. Congratulations to you and the Adesina family. AkinwumiAdesina,” he said.

Joy, who emerged the best among 85 graduating medical doctors, recently graduated from OAU where she took home most of the awards of excellence available at the institution.

She graduated after an amazing performance with distinctions in Surgery, Community Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Child Health, Dermatology, Mental Health, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology.

That is not all the story. She also received the following awards; Nigeria Medical Association Prize to the student with the best overall result in the M.B.Ch.B degree examination, NMA Prize to the student with the best overall result in the M.B.Ch.B degree examination, Faculty Prize for the candidate with the best overall performance in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Olaningbe Makanjuola Memorial Prize to the best student in Medicine among others.

Reacting to Joy’s academic feat, her uncle, Adesina took to his official Twitter page @akin_adesina and said, “I am extremely proud of my niece, Dr. Joy Adesina, who graduated as the Best Student in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine, Obafemi Awolowo University. She bagged 10 distinctions in all, as well as Nigerian Medical Association Prize & Faculty Prize.”

Responding to Adesina’s tweet, Joy said, “Thank you for always rooting for me, cheering me on and being an inspiration.”
