How Delta Won The National Sports Festival

The 19th edition of the National Sports Festival, on Sunday, came to an end at the Abuja National Stadium, after 10 days of tough competitions among over 8,000 athletes with Delta State finishing top of the table with an unprecedented 351 medals.

Team Delta who dominated and defended the title they won in the last edition, became champions of this year’s National Sports festival in Abuja after they raked in 163 gold, 87 silver, 101 bronze medals. Rivers State finished as first runners-up with 69 gold, 58 silver, 66 bronze to take their total medal hauls to 193.

Second runners-up, Edo, won 47 gold, 41 silver and 53 bronze medals, making their medals 141.

Lagos, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states came fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Abuja finished seventh on the medals table with 21 gold, 9 silver and 24 bronze.

The Sports Festival has not been held for six years, since 2012 in Lagos.
