How Oluwo Punched, Inflicted Injuries On Me – Oba Akinropo, Agbowu of Ogbagbaa

The Agbowu of Ogbagbaa, Oba Sikirulahi Akinropo, has narrated how the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, allegedly punched him and left bruises on his face during an incident that took place in Osogbo, Osun State.

The incident reportedly took place during a peace meeting called by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in Osogbo at the Zone XI Command of Nigeria Police Force, Osogbo.

The incident had prompted some monarchs from the Osun West Senatorial District to call for the suspension of the Oluwo on Friday.

The AIG was said to have invited about 30 monarchs from Iwo, Olaoluwa and Ayedire to the peace meeting over a petition written against some of them by the Oluwo over alleged excess land selling by monarchs under his domain.

The Oluwo had earlier denied the allegation that he beat up Oba Akinropo, while also accusing the Agbowu of interrupting and calling him names while he was speaking at the meeting.

But Oba Akinropo countered the Oluwo’s claim in an interview with Punch.

He said at the meeting, the Oluwo “stood up to talk and said, as the leader of all Obas in Ayedire, Olaoluwa and the remaining towns in the area, other Obas were selling lands and he didn’t want that to happen anymore.

“But we told him that the lands we sold belonged to our towns and not Iwo. The Olu of Ile-Igbo Kingdom said he only sold lands in Ile-Igbo. Onigege also said the same thing, and I also said the lands I sold belonged to Ogbagbaa, my domain.”

Oba Akinropo recalled that the meeting had in attendance the Chairman of Iwo Local Government Area and the Officer-in-Charge (Legal), Osun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, among others.

The monarch said the commissioner had recommended that since the dispute had to do with land, they should approach the court to settle it amicably.

“But Oluwo said should they do that, they were calling for war. I did not even see it coming; he just sprang forward from his seat, and asked why I was speaking while he was talking.

“He left his seat and the Iwo Local Government Chairman was trying to restrain him, but he pushed him away and started punching me where I sat. It was the AIG that came to my rescue by pulling him away from me,” said the Agbowu.

Oba Akinropo also denied calling the Oluwo unprintable names, saying “He (Oluwo) was just trying to defend himself.”
