How US Based Nigerian-Born Basketballer Drowned At Water Park

A Nigerian-born basketball player in the United States of America, Calistus Anyichie has died.

Anyichie who was a political science student at the Binghamton University died in a drowning accident.

According to reports, Anyichie was a member of the men’s basketball team.

The university on its verified twitter handle mourned the 19-year-old.

According to Harvey Stenger, President of the university in a statement said: “A talented young person has been tragically taken from us. This is a heartbreaking loss for our community. We will do all that we can to be there for his family, for the team and everyone who knew Calistus.”

On his part, Patrick Elliot, Director of Athletics at the university noted: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Calistus.

“Calistus was a bright and engaging young man with an infectious smile. He loved his academic studies at Binghamton and embodied the exceptional spirit of being a student-athlete at our university.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy. Our sincere condolences go out to his family, teammates and fellow student-athletes.”

Recall that Anyichie got drowned on Sunday at Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca, New York, according Ithaca Journal.

The newspaper revealed that emergency crews pulled an unconscious man from the water in Buttermilk Falls State Park on Sunday.

Anyichie described as “college age,” was found at the base of a 15-foot bank, and crews used a rope system to pull him out of the ravine.

The report further disclosed that Ithaca firefighters were dispatched at around 5 p.m. for a call of a “possible drowning” at the 300 block of West King Road at Upper Buttermilk State Park.
