I Never Accused Christians Of Fueling Buhari’s Death Rumours, SGF Reacts

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir David Lawal, has denied claims that he accused Christians of spearheading the death rumours on President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that Lawal was reported to have accused Christians of praying for the death of President Buhari during a church service.

“Churches have gone into overdrive praying for a Christian president to take over, glad that the President never returns so that our vice president and acting President continues because, according to them, the economy is doing better under him.

“So while in church, I know what the church is saying. I have sat through a sermon where the pastor sought to attack me for supporting Buhari as a candidate,” the SGF was quoted as saying.

The SGF’s refutation, however, follows backlash by Christian Nigerians to include the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, on him for making the disparaging comments.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja and signed by his Director of Press, Bolaji Adebiyi, the SGF said he only “frowned on the growing hatred among citizens and in particular, the imputation of politics and partisanship into all actions and achievements of our leaders. Babachir David Lawal

“He only called on Christians and, in particular, prophets not to prophesy calamities on our leaders nor threaten retaliations on criminals in the name of Christianity.’’
