The picture showing the monarch kneeling down had gone viral on the internet, attracting diverse comments from the public.

While many that commented on the picture saw nothing wrong in the action of the newly installed monarch, many others were of the view that the act desecrated the revered stool of Ooni.

But reacting in a statement issued in Ile Ife yesterday, and made available to newsmen, the director of communication and public affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Ile-Ife, Comrade Moses Olafare, said the monarch would never equate himself to God Almighty, saying God is the Creator of all including him.

The statement described as “unacceptable and sacrilegious to equate Ooni’risa or any other king to the Almighty God”, saying it is only God, the Creator of mankind that enthrones and can dethrone, if He so wishes.

The statement reads: “The attention of ILE OODUA has been drawn to a publication released Wednesday, 16th December, 2015 by an online medium in which His Imperial Majesty, Ooni’risa and Arole Oodua, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, OjajaII, was criticised for bowing to God during church service.

“God remains the King of kings, who keeps alive kings or can kill. He made it possible for me to be crowned as the king of the source of Yoruba race.

“I have no regrets whatsoever for kneeling down to exalt that Almighty God, who did not only create me, but has also kept me alive, saw me through all the rigours of life and made me what I am today”.
