Mother of 11-year old Jamoneisha Merrit, who suffered severe burns after another poured boiling water on her as she slept, is demanding justice for her daughter.
Merrit was at a friend’s home for a sleepover when 12-year-old Aniya Grant Stuart boiled water and poured it on her while she slept on a couch.
She is in intensive care at Harlem Hospital Center in New York with second-degree burns to her face, shoulders and neck and chest.
Aniya has been charged with felony assault and apparently tried to kill herself with a knife after she saw the injuries she had inflicted on her friend.
“I want justice for my daughter. I want all that was involved to be brought to justice. I want ACS to come and do their job,” Ebony, the girl’s mom, said.
The 12-year-old girl’s mother Shernett Panton told the Daily News, “They always prank each other. My daughter was sleeping and Jamoni poured cold water on [my daughter]. My daughter was like, ‘OK, if you’re gonna do a prank on me, I’m gonna prank you back.’”
“But my daughter — I don’t know what she was thinking — boiled hot water and poured it on Jamoni’s face.”
The “hot water challenge” pushes people to boil water and toss it on unsuspecting victims. Last week, an 8-year-old girl in Florida died from her injuries five months after she drank boiling water through a straw on a dare.
The mother of the 11-year-old girl who was seriously injured says she wants justice. “I want justice for my daughter. I want all that was involved to be brought to justice. I want ACS to come and do their job,” Ebony, the girl’s mom, said.
She asked for prayers for her daughter, adding that she is doing much better, ABC News reported.
