Justin Gatlin, American sprinter and former Olympic and world champion, has dethroned Usain Bolt to become the new 100m world champion.
Posting a winning time of 9.92 secs the American became the new world champion in Saturday’s final at the ongoing IAAF World Championships in London.
The 35-year old sprinter last achieved the feat in 2005.
Another American Christian Coleman came second in a time of 9.94secs while Bolt finished in third place with 9.95secs.
Despite finishing third, Usain Bolt got more applause from the crowd, as the Jamaican bids goodbye to athletics, a sport that brought him so much fame. The 30-year-old was the fans favourite in Saturday’s race.
