Reactions have trailed reports that Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, had died in an air crash on Friday evening in Kaduna State.

The crash was said have involved the military’s Beachcraft 350 aircraft, with all eight members onboard said to have died.

A video currently trending on social media shows flames shooting up from the scene of the plane crash.

Nigeria’s former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, described the incident as “a monumental tragedy and a big blow to our nation.” Below are some of the reactions on Twitter.
