Igbo Quit Notice: ‘Nigerians Have The Right To Live Anywhere’ – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the quit notice issued by the Arewa Youth Groups ordering all Igbo residing in the north to vacate the region before October 1st.

Buhari, in a nationwide broadcast message he issued following his return from the UK on a 103-day medical trip, said that Nigerians have the right to live and conduct businesses anywhere in the country.

The WHISTLER recalls that vice president Yemi Osinbajo in Buhari’s absence, held several consultations with northern and eastern leaders as part of moves to address the issue.

Buhari, in the statement, said that the unity of Nigeria is a concluded issue and has become non-negotiable.

He said, “Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.

“Every Nigerian has the right to live and pursue his business anywhere in Nigeria without let or hindrance.

“I believe the very vast majority of Nigerians share this view.

“This is not to deny that there are legitimate concerns. Every group has a grievance. But the beauty and attraction of a federation is that it allows different groups to air their grievances and work out a mode of co-existence.”
