The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, on Thursday, directed all police commands and formations to discontinue the use of commercial vehicles for operations and patrol duties.

The directive was contained in a statement issued by the Force’s Public Relations Officer and acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Olabisi Kolawole, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the directive had been circulated to all police formations and commands across the country.

The statement explained that the IGP’s decision was not unconnected with regular complaints by members of the public.

It added that there were enormous negative consequences associated with such practises by the police.

The statement warned that abuse of the directive by any police unit would attract severe sanctions.
