IGP Idris Pays Wike Homage, Gets Scolded For Gross Misconduct

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, on Thursday, paid Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State homage ahead of the Saturday legislative rerun elections in the state.
Idris, during his visit to the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt, got reprimanded as Governor Wike demanded to know why the Police chief would unilaterally permit the withdrawal of his Chief Security Officer (CSO) without his prior notice.
Wike, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, asked the IGP to transfer the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Stephen Hasso, and the Commander of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Akin Fakorede, for being partisan and deliberately compromising the security of Rivers State.

While defending his CSO, whom the IGP claimed was withdrawn for misconduct, Wike maintained that the CSO only did his job by preventing Stephen Hasso and APC hired crowd from invading Government House in Port Harcourt.
He further warned the IGP that he would not accept any unknown CSO assigned to him as his life was already under threat, adding that the Police must desist from politicising the security of the Rivers rerun elections.
“The moment you touch my Chief Security Officer, you are telling me that you are ready for me. As I sit, I am empty, I have no protection,” Wike said.

“When people start to embarrass the governor, take his Chief Security Officer without information, it is completely wrong . What you have done is the highest disrespect to the office of the Governor.
“I am pleading with you, my life is very important. I will not take any Chief Security Officer you bring to me that I don’t know. This is a matter of security and protection, it is not what you do with levity,” he added.
THE WHISTLER recalls that Governor Wike had raised the alarm that his life was under threat following the withdrawal of his security aides by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police (CP), Francis Odesanya, on November 26.
Odesanya had denied the allegation, saying: “I have not withdrawn any of his (governor’s) Policemen. How can I withdraw his Policemen, who will now protect him? I can’t withdraw the governor’s security now. How can I,” the CP asked.
