Ikoyi Prison: Aregbesola Orders ‘Quick’ Investigation Into Death Of Five Inmates

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has ordered an immediate investigation into the death of five inmates at the Ikoyi Medium Prison, Lagos on Monday.

The five inmates were electrocuted in the early hours of today, while nine others were seriously injured.

Aregbesola, who gave the order in a statement signed by his Press Officer, Jane Osuji and posted on the ministry’s twitter handle, also said the ministry would release a comprehensive update on the incident in the next few hours.

The statement added that the minister also commiserated with the victims of the incident and also ordered immediate medical attention for those affected.

Recall that a similar incident had happened in April 2018 when an inmate of the Ikoyi prison, one Kabiru Adeyemi, who was standing trial at the Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court 5 in Lagos, reportedly slumped and died.
