I’ll Fight Corruption Till It Dies – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his decision to completely wipe out corruption from the Nigerian system.

Buhari made the disclosure at the 2017 Annual National Management Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Management on Monday in Abuja.

The theme of this year’s edition is ‘Corporate Governance and Institutional Performance’.

The President, who was represented by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita, said his administration will eliminate all forms of corrupt practices in Nigeria so as to set the country on “the path of greatness and prosperity”.

The President said, “To set this country on the path of greatness and prosperity, complete elimination of all forms of corrupt practices must be in the front burner and our collective consciousness always.

“You will agree with me that a great nation is the reward of great leadership built on good governance with strict adherence to the ideals and principles of corporate governance. This is our motivation and value proposition. My administration will, therefore, continue to fight corruption and associated social vices at all levels until they are exterminated from our body polity.”

According to him, the theme of the conference is relevant towards charting a new course for the country.
Nigeria scored 28 points out of 100 on the 2016 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) reported by Transparency International. Corruption Index in Nigeria averaged 20.17 Points from 1996 until 2016, reaching an all time high of 28 Points in 2016 and a record low of 6.90 Points in 1996.

The CPI ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be. A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean)
