I’m Tempted To Steal, Woman Confesses After Being Caught

Mrs Ngozi Ugwunnani, from Obollo, in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Saturday, said ‘unknown forces’ were responsible for her stealing habit.

Ngozi, who said she was born in 1972, also said one of her sons ‘steals’. It was gathered that she is a serial thief, mainly at markets.

She was caught at Orba market after stealing a mattress worth N40, 000. 00; a carton of juice, soaps, a big umbrella, a pack of malt drink, among others.

She told THE WHISTLER that, “I don’t know the cause of my stealing. When I see something, I’m tempted to steal it. I stole the mattress, juice, malt, and a big umbrella at Orba market. I kept them at different places. When I returned to collect them one after the other, I was caught.

“I have two children. One of them is also stealing. I don’t know the cause of this. Even when I don’t want, something pushes me to steal.”

Our correspondent gathered that she was implicated after she had hidden the mattress on top of a roof. She returned to collect it, and was caught.

A member of the vigilante, on condition of anonymity, said, “We were alerted. We then monitored her until she went to collect the mattress. We then rounded up everything she had stolen, because it wasn’t only the mattress. We then brought them to our office where she confessed to the crime.

“The owners are collecting the items one after the other. It is indeed terrible that a woman her age is doing this. We shall handle her case in accordance with the law establishing the agency.”
