Imo Lawmakers Begin Impeachment Process Against Deputy Governor

Lawmakers in Imo State have begun impeachment proceedings against embattled Deputy Governor of the state, Prince Eze Madumere, as tension between him and his principal, Governor Rochas Okorocha, deepens.

The Deputy Speaker, Ugonna Ozuruigbo, moved the motion that the impeachment process be served on the deputy governor, but the motion was opposed by the lawmaker representing Oru West LGA, Donatus Onuigwe.

Onuigwe was suspended by the Speaker immediately, in the tension-soaked plenary, which is currently ongoing.

The impeachment motion includes charges bordering on gross misconduct, as he was accused among other things, of abandoning his duties and office as the state’s number two citizen for a long time.

Mr Madumere had fallen out with Governor Okorocha over succession to the governorship seat next year when Mr Okorocha ends his second term

Okorocha’s public endorsement of his chief of staff and Son-in-law, Uche Nwosu to succeed him, is said to be the root of the problems between them, as Madumere has also declared his intention to take over the Imo State Government House in 2019.
