Imo PDP Chairman Quits Party As Ihedioha Returns To Supreme Court

The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Charles Ezekwem, has announced his resignation and exit from the party amid some setbacks faced by the party in the state.

Ezekwem’s resignation came barely two weeks after the Supreme Court sacked Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP as Imo governor and declared Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (AP) as the duly elected governor of the state.

The development also came hours after the candidate of the APC, Princess Miriam Odinaka Onuoha, defeated the PDP’s candidate in the House of Representatives rerun election held for the Isiala Mbano/Onuimo/Okigwe federal constituency in Imo State on Saturday.

Announcing his resignation in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the PDP, Ezekwem said his move was inspired by some “prevailing circumstances” facing the party.

He said, “In view of the prevailing circumstances within my party vis-a-vis my present standing as the State Chairman of the PDP Imo State and after due consultation with my family, and with the approval of my supporters, I hereby tender my resignation as PDP Chairman Imo State; also as a member of the party in the ward of Okigwe LGA which has been duly communicated to the Ward Chairman,” the letter read.

“I thank the teaming population of PDP Imo State who thoughtfully elected me as their State Chairman, i sincerely regret all the inconveniences the party faced. I thank the party for the support they gave me and the opportunity to serve in that capacity.”
