Imo Rep Sponsors Motion On Firearms To Honour Senatorial Aspirant Killed In Shooting

The newly sworn in member of the House of Representatives from Imo State, Princess Miriam Onuoha, has given reasons for co-sponsoring a motion to ban sporadic shooting and use of firearms in public functions.

It was the first motion the law maker, who represents Isiala Mbano/Okigwe/Onuimo Federal Constituency, has supported since her swearing in on Wednesday January 29.

In a statement issued by the lawmaker on Friday to thank everyone that worked for her success at the polls, she co-sponsored the motion because of the killing of a senatorial aspirant from her state shot dead by a security officer attached to him.

Ndubuisi Emenike, the senatorial candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) for Imo North in last year’s general election, was shot on Sunday January 26 outside the country home Princess Onuoha in Umunachi, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State when he came to congratulate her on her electoral victory.

“I regret the lateness to express my feelings and gratitude. it is not in my character rather it came as a result of the tragedy that occurred in front of my house claiming the most valued life of an illustrious son of Okigwe Zone my beloved brother Emenike.

“I have been very devastated since the ugly incident. His painful death is very hard to bear. The wonderful memories of his life on Earth and his tragic death shall not be forgotten in a hurry. It is on that note that I dedicated my first appearance at the Green Chambers, by Co-sponsoring a motion to ban shooting sporadically and use of firearms in public functions.”

“I heartily appreciate each one of you my leaders, friends and supporters who in one or the other contributed to the success of my election into the Federal House of Representatives to serve the good people of my Federal Constituency.

“To all the candidates at the Okigwe North Rerun, I hereby extend my hands of partnership in request for collaboration to make Okigwe North grater and better; no victor, no vanquished, pls.”
