Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has called on Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, to implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference report organised by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The group in a communique issued on Tuesday at the end of its quarterly meeting held at the residence of its national leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, Ondo State, joined a growing list of others demanding for the implementation of the report.

The group noted that the positions of former leaders, Gen Yakubu Gowon (rtd), Goodluck Jonathan and Atiku Abubakar, was a confirmation that more Nigerians desired restructuring.

The communique was read by Chairman of the Organising Committee of the group, Chief Korede Duyile.

The group frowned at the incessant attacks carried out by herdsmen in various parts of the country, saying that if the matter is not properly addressed, it may cause bigger problems.

Afenifere said people who were being attacked might be forced to result to self-help unless the government gives it the desired attention.

The 2014 National Conference was inaugurated by the Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on 17 March 2014 in Abuja, Nigeria. There were about 492 delegates that represented a cross-section of Nigerians including the professional bodies group.

The Conference was headed by retired Chief Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi. Following a plenary session that lasted for weeks, the Conference was broken into 20 committees that included Public Finance and Revenue among others.

President Jonathan at his inaugural speech said the conference was “being convened to engage in intense introspection about the political and socio-economic challenges confronting our nation and to chart the best and most acceptable way for the resolution of such challenges in the collective interest of all the constituent parts of our fatherland”.
