INEC Arraigns Uyo Professor Over Electoral Fraud

On Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) arraigned Professor Ignatius Uduk on a three-count charge bordering on electoral fraud and perjury.

The professor of the University of Uyo, Akwa-Ibom, was arraigned over allegations of rigging the 2019 Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District election.

Before now, the commission made efforts to arraign the academic which yielded no result, and in November, the High Court sitting in Uyo issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

On Wednesday, however, he was paraded at the High Court 4 in Uyo, the state capital.

Uduk who served as a collation/returning officer in charge of Essien Udim State Constituency during the March 21, 2019 poll, is accused of announcing and circulating false, fake election results and lying on oath.

He was also accused of abandoning his assigned duties as the collation and returning officer in the State House of Assembly Election and unlawfully generating scores and entering same in form EC 8e (ii).

Uduak, pleaded not guilty to the charges while his counsel, Samuel Ndah, filed a bail application for his client but was opposed by the prosecution counsel, Kpoobari Sigalo.

Presiding judge, Justice Archibong Archibong, adjourned the matter to December 14th, 2020 for ruling on the bail application.
