INEC Lacks ‘Capacity’ To Hold Free, Fair Elections, Wike Tells German Ambassador

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allegedly lacks the capability to conduct free and fair elections.

Wike said this in the light of reports that underaged voters were allegedly allowed to participate in the recently held local government elections in Kano State.

The governor said, however, that come 2019 elections, Nigerians would resist every plot to manipulate results of polls by INEC across the country.

“INEC does not have the capacity to hold free and fair elections. See what happened in Kano State. INEC says it wants to investigate the under-age voting that took place last week,” Wike said while receiving German Ambassador, Dr. Bernhard Shlagheck, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

“Who gave the children the voter cards? We will not allow anyone to manipulate the electoral system of the country,” the governor added.
