Kogi Boils As Women Protest, INEC Office Burnt In Dekina

The women, who arrived the state office, were received by the Resident Electoral Commissioner and the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu.

After listening to their complaint, the REC assured them that the issue of a supplementary election was in line with the law and pledged to forward their petition to Abuja.

On the other hand, Ojukwu pleaded with the protesting women to retire back given that sensitive materials were being expected and the tense security situation, which they heeded.

The burnt office in Dekina caters for 29 of out of the 91 polling units where the election was supposed to take place.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the suspected thugs invaded the office at about 5:00am and set it on fire in anger.

One of the eyewitnesses said: “The thugs came in a bus, shot sporadically and razed down the office.”

It was not immediately clear if the voting materials for Saturday’s poll had been taken to the INEC office or not.
