INEC Releases Statement On Sale Of Cloned PVC Online

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday reacted to the viral report of Permanent voters cards (PVC) sold on a Chinese website, Alibaba.com.

News about PVCs branded with Nigerian colours and logo on the Chinese e-commerce platform, with an option of a customized name, went viral during the weekend.

However, in a statement issued by the director on voter education and publicity, Oluwole Osaze Uzzi via twitter, the commission explained that they had:

“anticipated these and proactively took measures to preserve and secure our electoral materials.

“Several security features and secret source codes are contained in the smart card readers, which enables it to read only PVCs issued by the commission.’’

INEC added that the government and security agencies will be questioned to find how the cloning and sale came about.
