Infantino Says FIFA Considering Holding Women’s World Cup Every 2 Years

FIFA’s President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that the world football governing body is considering staging a women’s world cup every two years.

Infantino made this known to reinstate the body’s commitment to consider rescheduling the women’s apex football which holds every four years since its inaugural tournament in China in 1991.

In June, at a press conference in Lyon, a couple of days before the women’s final between the United States and the Netherlands which held on Sunday, Infantino outlined his ideas to further develop the women’s game around the world.

The FIFA boss maintained he was ready to present the proposals to the FIFA executive committee and other member associations.

Here is the Infantino’s proposals:

1 Expand the World Cup Finals to 32-countries for 2023, from the present 24.

2 Increase prize money from $30M to $60M.

3 The creation of an annual Club World Cup, perhaps starting as early as 2020.

4 Investment by Fifa, of $1b over the next 4-year cycle (starts 2023).

5 Creation of an international women’s league with promotion and relegation.
