INSECURITY: Buratai Disagrees With Obasanjo

In what many will regard as a response to Obasanjo’s recent letter to President Muhammadu Buhari over the security situation across the country, the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Tukur Buratai has said the security agencies have effectively tackled security issues in the country.

Recall that Obasanjo yesterday, July 15, 2019 in his letter to the president on the issue of security said “Nigeria is on the precipice and dangerously reaching a tipping point where it may no longer be possible to hold danger at bay”.

Continuing, Obasanjo said: “The issue is hitting at the foundation of our existence as Nigerians and fast eroding the root of our Nigerian community.”

Buratai who noted that security officials have recorded “great success” in the fight against insecurity, he said the cries of insecurity across the country are “political game”

According to reports, the COAS made the remark at 1 Division super camp in Kuyello, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Monday.

He said: “Apart from some isolated remote areas as a result of some other factors, the attacks have drastically reduced.

“That means we are winning and it is a great success which people should be assured.

“All these cries of insecurity which some groups and individuals are taking it as a political game I think they should have a rethink because it is no longer the case,” he said.

The army boss emphasised that he believes the security situation across the country has improved.

“Insecurity has been tamed right now in the northeast and in the northwest; and even in other areas we are doing so well.

“Our troops are deployed in support of the government, civil police and indeed the civil authorities,” he added.
