International Condom Day: 66% Nigerians Have Unprotected Sex With Strangers – Survey 

A recent survey has shown that 66% of Nigerians do not use condoms during sex with Strangers.

Data from a survey by NOI Polls Limited in partnership with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) and AIDS Healthcare Foundation showed that only 34 percent of Nigerians use the protective rubber during sexual intercourse.

However, the report stated that majority of Nigerians who claimed to use condoms use it for family planning, protection against unwanted pregnancy and protection against Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).While 32% use condoms for family planning purposes, 32% and 26%  use it for protection against unwanted pregnancy and against sexually transmitted diseases respectively.

The survey also found that 69% of Nigerians would prefer to purchase condom from a pharmacy while 20% prefer get it from a health facility.

Meanwhile 36% of Nigerians think condoms should be sold at N50 while 27% thinks it should be sold from N300 and above.

The survey was released to mark the International Condom Day (ICD), which is observed annually on February 13 through Valentine’s Day( February 14) to promote safer sex awareness, by encouraging people to use condoms.
