Islamic Bank To Support Nigeria In Fighting COVID-19

The President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Bandar Hajjar, has discussed ways the bank will assist the country and other member countries.

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed  disclosed in a tweet on Tuesday.

The coronavirus has affected over 45 IsDB member countries out of 57, including Nigeria, with the potential of disrupting 1.8 billion livelihoods.

Considering the challenges linked to the virus, the IsDB and Ahmed talked on ways to mitigate the impact.

“Dr. Bandar Hajjar, President of IsDB, held a virtual conference today, with H.E. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Nigeria, and discussed the challenges posed by COVID19 in the member country, and assistance to be provided by IsDB Group,” the finance ministry said.

The bank had launched a $2.3 billion palliative  for member countries and Muslim communities in non-member countries. 

Other African nations such like Egypt, Algeria, Senegal, Cameroon and Burkina Faso, where there are fears that health services are under pressure, had sought the bank’s attention.
