Israel’s New PM Benneth Speaks On Palestine, Iran As Biden Sends Goodwill

In his manifesto, newly elected Prime Minister of Israel, Naftali Benneth, on Sunday explained his position on Palestine, Iran, Arab citizens and the United States to his country’s parliament.

THE WHISTLER reported that the Parliament of Israel (Knesset) appointed Bennett as the new prime minister of the country, thereby putting an end to the twelve-year reign of his predecessor, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Bennett, who is the son of American Jewish immigrants from California, said his administration will open a new chapter in the country’s relations with Arab citizens and the Arab world.

“We understand the plight and needs of the Arab society. The fight against crime and violence, the housing crisis, the gaps in education and infrastructure – will be addressed,” he said.

Recall that Palestine and Israel had been at loggerheads over the territory of Jerusalem leading to conflict between the two neighbors resulting in casualties.

For the Palestinians, Benneth said he would not tolerate any effort to deny Israel of its land, no matter the dispute that arises.

He also warned the military wing of Hamas, saying that the Israel Defense Force was prepared for an offense if it dares to attack its citizens.

“Last month, we received a reminder that the conflict with the Palestinians is still here. We must remember, and remind the world, that our enemies deny our very existence in the Land of Israel, and that this is not a dispute over territory.

“I hope the ceasefire in the south is maintained. But if Hamas again chooses the path of violence against Israeli civilians, it will encounter a wall of iron.

“Violence and terrorism are not a natural phenomenon or destiny with which we are supposed to just come to terms. The Palestinians must take responsibility for their actions, and understand that violence will be met with a firm response,” he added.

Like Netanyahu, Benneth maintained that the Islamic Republic of Iran was its greatest threat and that “ Israel will not allow Iran to be equipped with nuclear weapons.”

Although, Netanyahu had argued that his successor will not be able to withstand Iran’s leadership.

Benneth also appreciated the U.S. for being a long-standing partner of Israel.

Following his announcement as new PM, the U.S. president, Joe Biden, congratulated the new Israeli government.

In a White House press statement, Biden assured on strengthening diplomatic ties with Israel.

“On behalf of the American people, I congratulate Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Alternate Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, and all the members of the new Israeli cabinet. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Bennett to strengthen all aspects of the close and enduring relationship between our two nations. Israel has no better friend than the United States,” the statement partly read.
