It Was A Joke That Buhari Ordered El-Rufai To Give Sanusi Appointment – Bashir

Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has clarified that he was only joking when he said Governor Nasir El-Rufai appointed the dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the Chancellor of Kaduna State University on President Muhammadu Buhari’s request.

Some media houses, not THE WHISTLER, had picked up a tweet by Bashir purporting that President Buhari was behind El-Rufai’s appointment of Sansui as KASU Chancellor after the former emir was dethroned.

Bashir had tweeted, “By the way, I am yet to see anyone praising President Muhammadu Buhari for HRH Muhammadu Sanusi’s recent appointments, “he ordered his ‘godson’ Mallam Nasir el-Rufai to make the appointments”. All the newspapers are welcome to carry this information.”

The presidential aide was obviously teasing the media over an earlier report which claimed that Buhari was the one that ordered the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, to dethrone Sanusi.

Speaking in a series of tweets on Thursday, Bashir said: “After few tweets on ‘Buhari ordered Ganduje’ and ‘Buhari ordered el-Rufai’ I want to put out this DISCLAIMER, BUHARI DIDN’T ORDER EL-RUFAI, I just used it sarcastically to counter the false narrative that HE ORDERED GANDUJE, which was untrue, malicious and politically motivated.

“The President does not have a history of intervening in the affairs of any state in the country, unless the issue at hand is of national consequence. On such matters which impinge on national security, he has a duty of involvement as the law stipulates. – Presidency

“As outlined in the Constitution, the appointment or removal of emirs and other traditional leaders is strictly within the jurisdiction of state governments. It is unfair and disingenuous of opposition politicians to try to link the situation in Kano to the federal government.”
