Jamie Vardy Signs New Long-Term Deal With Leicester

After several weeks of speculation, England striker Jamie Vardy has agreed a new long-term deal with Premier League champions Leicester.

The England international who helped the Foxes to their first ever Premier league trophy last season, has now been rewarded with an improved deal reportedly worth over £100k per-week

The decision is a major blow to Arsenal, who had hoped to wrap up a quick deal for Vardy before he joined up with the England squad.

The Gunners triggered the England striker’s release clause shortly before Euro 2016 began earlier this month, with the North London club offering him a deal reported to be worth £120,000 a week.

“Leicester City have today (Thursday) agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international’s contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years,” the club said in a statement.

“Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club.

“Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France. There will be no further comment from either the Club or the player on this matter until the conclusion of the tournament.”

Vardy’s most recent deal, which increased his wage to around £70,000 a week, was signed in February and runs until 2019.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said at the weekend he expected Vardy to stay with the Foxes. Wenger will now have to explore other options as he attempts to build a squad capable of winning their first title since 2004
