Jonathan Undecided Over 2023 Presidency – Aide

Former president Goodluck Jonathan has denied indicating interest in the 2023 presidential election.

Jonathan was reacting to reports making the rounds on the internet suggesting that he was “under pressure” to contest the presidency in 2023.

The former president had lost his re-election bid to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 elections.

He had conceded defeat to Buhari who was sworn in to succeed him on 29 May 2015, saying “Nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian.”

Reacting to the rumours that he may be seeking a return in 2023, Jonathan said “There is nothing like that.”

His media aide, Ikechuwu Eze, told The Cable: “There is nothing like that. The former President has not made any comments nor spoken to anyone on the coming elections.

“He is busy concentrating on his foundation, The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF), and its work of promoting peace, sustainable democracy and youth empowerment in Africa.”

“If you check online, you will discover that a story with similar headline had been published in the past by few shady online sources.”

“The last time this same story circulated online was before the 2019 Presidential elections. It has now come up again.

“The good thing is that Nigerians already know this to be fake. That is why Nigerian newspapers and serious online news media will not publish such falsehood,” he said.
