Jordan’s King Abdullah Consoles President Buhari Over Military Losses

Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein has sent a condolence message and assurance of support to President Muhammadu Buhari in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria, and throughout Africa.

In a telephone conversation, King Abdullah, in a statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesperson, commended the Nigerian army for their courage and resilience in the face of challenges in fighting extremist terrorism.

President Buhari thanked King Abdullah for his concern on the recent setbacks that led to the loss of military lives in the North East.

Buhari assured that several measures had been discussed and were being implemented to steer the country from the unfortunate occurrence and pledged to continue to work towards total elimination of terrorism in the Lake Chad basin area.

The Nigerian president commended King Abdullah for his support and steadfastness for the global effort against terrorism, describing the collaboration between Jordan and Nigeria, and the rest of Africa, through the platform of Aqaba Counter Terrorism Retreats, as very beneficial.

Abdullah’s message might not be unconnected to the recent killing of over a hundred Nigerian soldiers during an attack on an army base in Metele, Borno State on November 18.

President Buhari who expressed deep shock on the attack, summoned defence chiefs and charged them to rejig the war against the terrorists.
