Journalist Agba Jalingo Released After 174 Days In Detention

Nigerian journalist and publisher of CrossRiverWatch, Agba Jalingo, has finally regained from detention.

This came after he met his bail condition, which included the sum of N10 million.

He had been detained allegedly on the orders of the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, for publishing a report on how the governor allegedly approved and diverted N500 million meant for the state’s microfinance bank.

Jalingo had been facing charges bordering on conspiracy, terrorism, treasonable felony, among others.

A Federal High Court sitting in Calabar had granted him bail last week following an application filed by his lawyer, Attah Ochinke.

He was released on Monday after perfecting the bail conditions.

Among the conditions was that his sureties would make a refundable deposit of N700,000 to the court’s registry.
