JUST IN: Afghanistan: Bomb Blast Kills Civilians Near Kabul Mosque

An undisclosed number of civilians were reportedly killed on Sunday following a bomb blast near a mosque in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Aljazeera reported that a Taliban Spokesperson said a “number of civilians” died on Sunday after a bomb detonated close to the Eid Gah Mosque.

The spokesman said that the sad development happened while people were gathered around the mosque for a memorial service in honor of the mother of Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack but it is said that the Taliban are in an ongoing conflict with other armed groups in the country.

Recall that Taliban suddenly took over the Afghan government immediately the United States military withdrew from the country on August 31.

This was after 20 years of military operations in the country, reportedly targeted at killing Osama Bin Laden and crippling his group , the Alqaeda.

The Alqaeda caused the deaths of over 1,000 people on US soil, when it diverted aircrafts to hit the World Trade Center, among other buildings.

The United Nations have stated that it will hold the Taliban to account for any negative development in Afghanistan.
