JUST IN: Jonathan Arrives Bamako, Expresses Optimism About Mission

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has arrived Bamako, the capital of Mali to mediate in the crisis rocking the nation.

Recall that Jonathan, through his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze had on Tuesday announced that he had been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as Special Envoy to Mali.

Jonathan announced his arrival in the country on his official facebook page on Thursday morning.

According to him, since his arrival in the city of Bamako on Wednesday evening, he has been meeting with various stakeholders in the country, and expressed optimism that his message of peace and hope would yield positive results.

He said “Since I arrived Bamako Wednesday evening with my delegation to begin my assignment as leader of Ecowas_Cedeao peace mission to Mali, I have been meeting with various interest groups including political, religious and civil society leaders.

“I am optimistic that our mission will yield positive results as our message of hope, peace and progress has so far been well received by different stakeholders. GEJ.”

Jonathan’s letter of appointment, signed by ECOWAS President, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, had read:

“Given your position as the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the great role and contributions your tenure offered to the maintenance of peace, security and stability in our region, I have the honour, in consultation with the Chair of the Authority, H.E. Issoufou Mahamadou, President of the Republic of Niger, to communicate to you, the decision to appoint you as ECOWAS Special Envoy for the sociopolitical crisis in Mali.”
