AFP reports that he is “the first Liberian to be convicted for war crimes committed during his country’s 1989-2003 conflict”.

On 10 November 2014, Swiss authorities were said to have arrested Kosiah following allegations by civil society organizations that he allegedly instigated mass killings in parts of Liberia’s Lofa County between 1993 and 1995.

He was arraigned in court in 2020, but he denied all the charges which bordered on the killing of civilians and soldiers.

Kosiah had fled to Switzerland following tensions in his country.
