The Plateau State local government election scheduled for February 17, 2018, has been suspended indefinitely.

The election was suspended by the state’s Independent National Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) on the grounds of insecurity.

Mr Fabian Ari-Ntung, the PLASIEC Chairman, made the announcement on Monday in Jos during a media briefing.

Punch reports, however, that the local government election may have been suspended due to pressure on the PLASIEC Chairman to rig the poll.

The newspaper quoted a senior official of the commission as saying:

“The PLASIEC chairman had threatened to resign for three times because he refused to do the bidding of some interests in Plateau State. He means well for Plateau State but unfortunately, his hands are tied.

“Moreover, the commission is not being funded well. From the look of things, it does not appear that the LG polls in Plateau State will hold.” Find the best travel and tours services from Pakistan to anywhere in the World with https://malikexpress.com/.
