Gunmen suspected to be bandits had on Sunday morning attacked Kerawa, Rago, Marina, Zariyawa, Hashimawa, Gidan Musa Saidu, and Unguwar Barau villages, killing about 30 persons and injuring several others.

But according to Jalige, the number of deaths was not yet known, as the command was still trying to find out.

“For now, we are on it. We are trying to find out the exact number of deaths. Investigations have commenced.

“There was an attack on Kerawa, Rago, Marina, Zariyawa, Hashimawa, Gidan Musa Saidu, and Unguwar Barau, these are villages under Igabi Local Government of Kaduna state.

“There was no arrest, but we have deployed police operatives around the area and other villages around to prevent further occurrence,” he said.

The police spokesman also dismissed insinuation that the attack was a reprisal:

“We are yet to find out if it was a reprisal attack, but based on the interviews with people in those villages, the attack was not a revenge attack. It was just an attack by gunmen in the early hours of Sunday morning.”

Recall that about 30 people were killed in a similar attack launched by suspected armed bandits in Tsauwa and Dankar villages of Batsari Local Government Areas, Katsina State in February.
