Kano Guber: PDP Lauds Court’s Affirmation Of Abba Yusuf As Its Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded the affirmation of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf as the authentic governorship candidate of its party in Kano State.

This comes after Yusuf was sacked by the Kano State Federal High Court as its candidate for the governorship election scheduled to take place on March 9, 2019, in the state.

Justice Lewis Allagoa of the Kano High Court had on Monday ruled that the PDP did not conduct governorship primary election in Kano, hence ordered the party to conduct fresh primary elections with less than five days to the gubernatorial election.

But Yusuf approached the Court of Appeal, where he sought a stay of execution of the order from the Kano High Court which nullified the primary election that produced him as the PDP governorship candidate in the state.

Justice Daniel Kalio of the Appeal Court consequently granted his appeal on Friday, less than twenty hours to the election.

Hailing the judgement, the PDP urged all stakeholders including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to “note the order of the Court of Appeal and be guided accordingly.”

The party said, “The order of the Court of Appeal on Thursday, March 7, 2019, restraining INEC from removing the name of Engr. Abba Yusuf from the list, as the governorship candidate for the PDP, has completely put to rest all controversies regarding the PDP candidate for the election.

“The Court of Appeal is commended for delivering justice by upholding the lawful nomination of Engr. Abba Yusuf as the PDP candidate for the Kano state governorship election,” the PDP said in a statement by is National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan.
