The deceased was said to have been appointed Dan’iya Kano in 1993 by his late elder brother and former Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero.

His death also came days after Kano lost several prominent citizens, including Professor Isa Hashim who had held the position of Jarman Kano in the Kano Emirate Council.

Among prominent people who have recently died in Kano are renowned professor of economics, Ibrahim Ayagi, professor of physiology, Aliyu Abdullahi Umar Dikko, the Regional Manager of First Bank in Kano, Abdullahi Lawal, a former Managing Director of the defunct Continental Merchant Bank, and a former Editor of Leadership Sunday and Triumph Newspapers, Musa Ahmad Tijjani, among others.

There have been speculations that the cause of their deaths could be linked to the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.
