Kano’s N5bn Cancer Centre Ready July 2021- Contractor

…To Treat 60-100 Patients Daily

Mario Stella, Programme Manager, TEAM Nigeria Company Limited, a consulting firm for BICO Nigeria Limited, has assured that the Kano Comprehensive Cancer Treatment Center worth over N5 billion would be ready for commissioning by June or July 2021.

This was just as the state Commissioner for Health ,Dr. Ibrahim Aminu Tsanyawa, said the present Cancer treatment hospital in the couNtry can only treat about 10 patients in a day, adding however, that the Kano cancer treatment centre would treat 60 to 100 patients a day and the only state-owned cancer centre in Nigeria.

He disclosed that the project is now at 50 percent completion after it had been redesigned, adding that it would have been at 80% completion if it was not reviewed.

During a media tour of the construction site by some selected journalists in Kano State on Tuesday, Mr Stella said the project would be completed by June or July 2021.

Stella added that the project had been stalled due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the state, coupled with alterations of its initial plans, which includes creating third floor and some additional compartments.

The project was initially planned to gulp N2.3 billion, but had now reached over N5 billion due to the addition of the third floor, a bridge and other compartments to the project.

Mr Stella disclosed that the project was conceived by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje during a trip to Melbourne, Australia early this year and he vowed to execute same in Kano.

After returning from the trip, the governor swung into action by signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with some companies which led to the commencement of the project early this year.

Speaking on the project, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Health Trust Fund, Dr Nura Idris ,who spoke on behalf of the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ibrahim Aminu Tsaysnwa ,said the centre would be equipped with three radio therapy machines to be installed in bunkers.
