Katsina Attack: Insecurity ‘Mostly’ In Northern Nigeria – NBA

The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) is concerned about the level of insecurity in Northern Nigeria, saying that President Muhammadu needs “to do more in the fight against insurgency and insecurity in Nigeria especially in the North East and the North West Geopolitical Zones.”

NBA president, Olumide Akpata, on Sunday, expressed the association’s concern and advice following Friday’s attack on a secondary school in Katsina state.

Recall that bandits had on Friday, invaded the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, and abducted a number of students.

In response, President Buhari, on Saturday, ordered security forces to swing into action and rescue those missing, and restore law and order.

The operation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Akpata stated that it was concerning that Nigerian students would be attacked by bandits in the manner they did in Katsina.

However, he praised the security forces for their intervention but added that the team should remain dedicated to duty until insecurity becomes a thing of the past.

“The @NigBarAssoc has received with deep concern, the news of the attack on the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State by yet to be identified gunmen which resulted in the abduction of dozens of innocent school boys, with many others unaccounted for.

“The Nigerian Bar Association calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to do more in the fight against insurgency and insecurity in Nigeria especially in the North East and the North West Geopolitical Zones.

“The security of lives and property remains the raison d’etre of government, and our lives and property, especially those of our vulnerable ones like school children cannot be toyed with.

“We welcome the efforts of the @PoliceNG and other security agencies towards securing the immediate release of these boys. We urge the Police and the other security outfits to make this a priority and leave no stones unturned in actualising this,” he tweeted.
