Kevin Hart Steps Down As Oscars Host

The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star, Kevin Hart has stepped down as Oscars host over a past homophobic and anti-gay tweet.

Coming few days after the US comedian described his selection as Oscars’ host as the “opportunity of a lifetime”, tweets from nearly a decade ago surfaced leaving him with the options of apologising for the tweets or losing the gig.

However, the 39-year-old in a video on Friday responded to the LGBTQ community over his words and announced that he will no longer host the Academy Awards.

“I chose to pass on the apology. The reason why I passed is because I’ve addressed this several times.

“I’ve said who I am now versus who I was then. I’ve done it. I’m not going to continue to go back and tap into the days of old when I’ve moved on and I’m in a completely different place in my life.

“I’m sorry that I hurt people. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again,”Hart said.
