Keyamo Taunts ‘Twitter Senator’ Dino Melaye

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has taken a swipe at Senator Dino Melaye after recently losing his seat in the Senate to Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was until October 11, 2019, the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district before the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja affirmed a tribunal ruling which nullified his election in the February 23 National Assembly election. The court also ordered a rerun election in the zone.

Following Melaye’s defeat at the rerun election and the swearing-in of Adeyemi as his replacement on Wednesday, Keyamo said “Twitter senators” who lost their seats in the senate should know that politics is not played on social media.

Melaye and Shehu Sani are among the senators in the 8th senate who lost their seats in the 9th Senate. The former senators are also vocal on social media.

Keyamo said, “Have you noticed that all Twitter Senators are finally out of the Upper Chambers? It tells us that the world of real politics in Africa is not yet played on social media.

“Social media has not had a substantial impact on our politics. Real politics is different from social media,” he tweeted.
