‘Kidnapped Dapchi Girls Taken To Niger Republic By Boko Haram’

About half of the 110 schoolgirls kidnapped from the Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, by Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly been “ferried” via a river to the Niger Republic.

“The girls [were] ferried across a shallow river and are held in the border town of Duro in Niger Republic,” read a report by Daily Trust, adding that the other part of the girls are currently being kept in an enclave in northern Borno State.

The report quoted a source privy to the movement of the girls as saying “The second batch has been moved to Tumbun Gini area of Abadam LGA of Borno.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government, while confirming the kidnap of the 110 schoolgirls, said “No stone will be left unturned in our determination to rescue these girls.”

The Minister of Information, Alh Lai Mohammed, who had held a meeting with stakeholders in the state, announced on Sunday that security operatives which include the police and Civil Defence Corps had been deployed to all schools in the state to prevent a recurrence of the incident.

He had said, “Government will remain focused and resolute in the fight against insurgency to rescue the students and every Nigerian in their custody.”
