Killing Of 43 Farmers: Buhari Absolves Self, Says Military Got All They Needed To Fight Boko Haram

President Muhammadu Buhari has bemoaned the gruesome murder of 43 rice farmers at Zabarmari village in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday.

Boko Haram insurgents were said to have tied up the farmers and slit their throats during an invasion of their rice farms on Saturday in the northern part of the country.

Reacting, President Buhari appeared to have absolved himself from blame as he said that his administration had given the military all they needed to fight insurgency and keep the country safe.

Presidential aide, Garba Shehu, quoted the president as saying that he condemned, “the killing of our hardworking farmers by terrorists in Borno State. The entire country is hurt by these senseless killings. My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief. May their souls Rest In Peace.”

Shehu added that Buhari noted that his government had given all the needed support to the armed forces “to take all necessary steps to protect the country’s population and its territory.”

THE WHISTLER had reported that following reports of the incident, some Nigerians had taken to social media to demand immediate dismissal of all the heads of security agencies in the country.

In his reaction, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, said the president must take urgent steps to restructure the security architecture of the country, as the current arrangement was not working.

Atiku said in a tweet, “Heartbreaking. Words fail me. The lives of our citizens should be worth much more than this. The rejig of the nation’s security architecture is long overdue. May their souls rest in peace and may their families be comforted.”
