KOGI: ‘Gov Yahaya Bello Has Ordered For My Assassination’ – Natasha Akpoti

The only female aspirant in Saturday’s governorship election that was held in Kogi State, Natasha Akpoti, has claimed on Monday that incumbent governor, Yahaya Bello, had ordered for her assassination.

Akpoti, who contested the election under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and emerged third position, made the allegation in a Facebook post.

This is not the first time Akpoti would be making such strong allegation against Bello, who was declared winner of the November 16 Kogi governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC on Monday declared that Bello polled a total of 406,222 votes to defeat his closest rival, Musa Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party, who scored 189,704 votes. Akpoti scored 9,482 votes, as announced by the electoral body.

The SDP candidate had written a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari in February, 2019, where alleged that the Kogi State governor wanted to assassinate her.

“Mr. President, Yahaya Bello has confronted me to name my price and I have turned him down; Yahaya Bello has described himself as the ‘Brutal Putin of Nigeria’ and I had wished him luck. Yahaya Bello has told me Tafawa Balewa was loved by the people and was still killed and same could befall me. In all of these, I have remained strong and undeterred,” she wrote.

Few days ago, Akpoti had similarly alleged that Bello unleashed his political thugs on the secretariat of the SDP in Lokoja after the building was razed ahead of the Kogi governorship election.

“It’s all burnt down. Nobody could come close because the APC thugs were here all through the night, shooting ammunition in the air. I am actually standing in the SDP office in Lokoja. What exactly is Yahaya Bello doing? Do we have a president that watches? what about Oshiomole? What about APC? Are they proud of their product?

“The military tried to get close to the secretariat to stop the fire but were unable to, because the APC thugs were here in their numbers with machine guns….At night, this whole place was burning, people could not have access to it…. This place burnt down all night,” she had said.
