Kogi: Group Commends PDP Over Peaceful Congress
The Coalition for Democratic Advancement in Nigeria (CDAN), on Monday, commended security agencies and other stakeholders over the peaceful conduct of the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward congress in Kogi State.
A statement signed by the Executive Director of the coalition, Dr. Chris Omelukpeme, said that as an independent observer group that monitored the congress which elected three ad hoc delegates for the state governorship primary scheduled for Sept. 10, it found it worthwhile to commend the stakeholders.
The statement said, “In line with our objectives, we mobilised 35 members of our organisation to the various wards in Kogi State to observe and monitor the process.

“The mobilisation was done with a view to ensuring that the provisions of the law and the constitution of the party were strictly adhered to.’’
It stated that in the course of the monitoring, it observed that the congress committee led by Mr. Leo Ogor arrived Lokoja on Sept. 2, held a briefing with stakeholders in the state.
“The congress committee, thereafter, dispatched materials to each LGA of the state through the various returning officers on Sept. 3 at about 10am as prescribed by the constitution and the guidelines of the party.
“The elections were observed to be conducted peacefully across the 21 LGAs of the state and there was no form of violence or chaos of whatsoever kind.’’

It noted that while the security officials were present at most of the LGA coalition centres, Returning Officers also returned the congress results of each LGA to the committee in Lokoja.
The coalition noted that there was also an appeal panel led by Senator Biodun Olujimi that listened to a few cases of appeal on Sept. 5.
It commended the congress and appeal committees led by Ogor and Olujimi respectively for adhering to the constitution of the PDP in discharging their duties.
“We commend the members of the PDP across the 21 LGAs for their very peaceful conduct throughout the process. We also commend the support of the security agents as they conducted themselves in a very professional manner,” it added.
The CDAN is a Civil Society Organisation with a cardinal objective of deepening and advancing the course of democratic development in Nigeria.
