Ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Kogi State, the Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, has officially announced his intention to vie for second term in office on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Saying he had to succumb to enormous pressure from party elders and stakeholders in the state.

He disclosed this during a speech in Lokoja while meeting with members of PDP elders and stakeholders.

On his decision to run for a second term, as a result of numerous advice from the elders, he said;

“The words of our elders are words of wisdom, I have come to appreciate in the last few weeks that before elders speak, they must have employed experience, patience, candour and courage.

“This latest gesture from our leaders has added to the weight of responsibility that I shoulder.  My pledge and response is to surpass your expectations, God helping me.”

Before now, PDP stakeholders led by Alhaji Sule Iyayi, a former deputy governor of the stae, urged Governor Wada to seek re-election based on his numerous achievements in the state.

Likewise, some critical stakeholders from the three senatorial district, and the Elders Advisory Council, have solidly declared their support for Wada’s bid for a second term in office, they went ahead to adopt him as the party’s sole candidate in the forth-coming governorship election scheduled to take place in November 2015, even as power rotation has been entrenched in the state.

According to Alhaji Iyaji, their decision to pick Wada was was borne out of his modest performance in the last three and half years.

Those present at the meeting were Alh Sule Iyaji, Chief Patrick Adaba, Prince Olushola Akanmode, the Speaker Kogi State House of Assembly, and a host of other party faithful.

However, the elders and critical stakeholders resolved to procure the nomination form for the governor at the PDP headquarters Abuja.
