In order to check the spread of Lassa fever into the state, Kwara State Government has begun intensive surveillance and screenings at its borders and the Ilorin International Airports.
To further tighten preparation for the outbreak of the viral disease the state completed an isolation centre and activated Response Teams and Incident Command System at the State Emergency Operation Centre.
According to a statement by the state ministry of health spokesperson Falade Gbenga Tayo the public have been warned to be vigilant and report any suspicious cases at the nearest health centres.

The statement also quoted the Kwara State Health Commissioner Raji Rasaq to have said the surveillance and screening was in accordance with the direcytive of the state governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
“The disease has remained a public health challenge and has affected some states. We do not have any case in the state but it is important to be prepared,” he said.
“We are working with the port health authorities to ensure that any foreigner or travellers coming to Kwara State is screened before entering the state.”
Meanwhile Rasaq, has urged residents of the state to adopt regular hand washing, proper cleaning of surroundings and household items and maintain a goo and hygienic food condition.
